WISER’s
importance has been acknowledged at the highest levels of the Polish government,
academia, and industry, and the initial board consisted of the below people,
whose current official terms of duty prevent them to be on the board of WISER:
- Professor Marek Belka was the Prime Minister of Poland in 2004-2005. Professor Belka has a distinguished career in the Polish government. He has served two terms as Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister. In between, he led the economic restructuring in Iraq. Professor Belka is also a well-known and respected academic; in 1993-1997, he was the Director of the Institute of Economics, The Polish Academy of Sciences.
- Professor Danuta Hübner is Poland's EU Commissioner with responsibility for Regional Policy. Previously, she has been Minister for European Affairs, Chair of the Committee for European Integration, and formerly the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. - Professor Stanislaw Soltysinski Founder and Lead Partner of the law firmoltysinski Kawecki & Szlezak. He is a former Dean of the Law School of the University of Poznan and Professor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. From 1997 to 2000, he served as leader of the expert team of the Deregulation Commission set up by then Deputy Prime Minister Leszek Balcerowicz.
